Did you know this year is the 40th anniversary of the legendary film Quadrophenia? Truly one of our favourite films ever, it’s had a massive influence on sub-culture and fashion ever since. In fact, our owner Stuart, a native Brighton boy, remembers the film being shot on his doorstep as a child!
As ever, all the classic Mod styles from this famous film are alive and well at Apache, starting with our brand new Trojan and Ska and Soul collections. What better way to celebrate a Mod revival than with a new shirt or polo shirt from our Spring Summer 2019 range.
Ska and Soul is the official menswear line of Trojan Records, the label synonymous with classic 1960s and 1970s movements like Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska. We’re proud to offer these two iconic brands for you Mod-heads!
Classic Check Shirts — £45
The arrival of Spring Summer 2019 season sees a clutch of new short sleeve shirts from our favourite brands. This classic check shirt by Trojan in Blood and Chocolate boasts a lightweight and crisp woven cotton poplin, the kind of fabric that smart-looking Mods adore! You also get maximum breathability in the summer due to the 100% cotton weave. Mods especially like these types of shirts worn under knitwear, so these properties are very important when layering. Sizes range from Medium to XX Large in both colours.
“Cycling” Polo Shirts — £45
These brand new 1/4 zip polo shirts by Trojan have us humming the Tour de France theme tune! Boasting vintage “cycling” collars with Mod-style twin tipping, these garments are the perfect blend of 1970s sub-culture fashion with sportswear. Trojan have made two very different patterns here. The white polo has a classic cut-and-sewn “houndstooth” stripe panel across the front (houndstooth being a Mod clothing staple). The other polo shirt boasts a beautiful blue colour with twin red-and-white stripes at the front.
Two Tone Polo — £40
Two-tone is another classic music genre from the Quadrophenia era, mixing ska with punk rock. (It’s all the more relevant this year with the return of the Specials and their sold out UK tour!) “Two tone” also refers to a tonic colour-contrast in fashion, such as in this superb purple polo by Ska and Soul, the sister brand of Trojan. Boasting a comfortable pique cotton fabric, three-button placket and traditional contrast polo collar and cuffs, this polo holds its own against anything in our Fred Perry range.
Short Sleeve Paisley Shirt — £55
Here’s another vintage pattern that has “Mod” written all over it!
Worn by Oscar Wilde, the Beatles, Paul Weller, and many more legends of UK culture, paisley patterns were embraced by Mods as the height of 1960s cool. Our customers love a Paisley pattern — last season’s Ska and Soul paisley shirt sold like hot cakes — and this new Spring Summer 2019 button-down shirt is perfect for the warm weather to come. Look closely and you’ll see a handy chest pocket and a double-button mitred cuff.
Jacquard Dot Polo — £45
You can’t beat an old-fashioned cotton knitted polo for warmth, comfort and style in equal measure. This gorgeous new jacquard dot polo by Trojan boasts a fine 3-colour dot pattern (orange, purple and sky blue) weaved into the fabric to create a dazzling effect both up close and at a distance. Available in a very generous size range — Medium to XXX Large.
Trojan Logo T-Shirt — £25
Trojan Records started life in 1967 as a British-based Jamaican outfit with influential artists such as Lee “Scratch” Perry on their books. Their iconic logo is synonymous with a blend of ska, rocksteady and punk, and it takes centre stage in these new ringer-style Trojan T-Shirts in Chocolate and Ecru. The cotton fabric is softly brushed to give it that light “peach-skin” feel — remarkably comfortable against the skin as a first layer.
